It is my distinct pleasure to endorse our community nonprofit, Starting Hearts, for exceptional service to the children and adult staff of our school district.
Starting Hearts provides innovative educational programs to prepare our school population to act as citizen first responders in the case of sudden cardiac arrest. Early care is so crucial in those first few minutes and often makes the difference between life and death. Our students and staff learn how to recognize a cardiac arrest and respond appropriately; and in the process, gain leadership and lifesaving skills to last a lifetime.
Starting Hearts and Eagle County School District entered into a strategic alliance agreement in 2016, calling for the organization to teach throughout the 2016-17 school year. Working closely with principals, teachers, and staff, the Starting Hearts’ instructors visited each of our seventeen schools and conducted the trademarked Call.Push.Shock.TM class for every student. Further, our adult staff received American Red Cross certification from Starting Hearts through a state-of-the-art blended learning program.
Starting Hearts’ instructors are professionals from the medical field and emergencies services, including doctors, nurses, EMS, and firemen. Our children and adult staff give rave reviews to both the engaging course content and the enthusiastic approach of the instructors.
We plan for Starting Hearts to return to our schools every two years with new content to engrain these important skills. We are greatly appreciative that the organization provides all of its services at no cost to the school district. Starting Hearts is having such a positive impact on our community with increasing survival rates due to an educated and committed population of citizen first responders. We applaud their work and encourage other school districts to participate in these wonderful educational programs.
