Littleton Public Schools Foundation

$3,179.04

Kids can’t do it alone. Families can’t do it alone. Schools can’t do it alone.

It takes a community to ensure that our kids are educated and our future is strong. The world is changing at a faster pace than ever before and our kids are dealing with things that we didn’t; things we don’t understand, needless to say that our kids don’t understand either.

Colorado is one of the most educated states in the country yet we fall to nearly last place in funding for our public schools. We get that no one wants to pay higher taxes, but as costs for everything else under the sun has gone up, so has the cost to educate our kids. And what makes public education even more challenging, there is no ‘extra’ funding to cover ‘extra’ needs.

That’s where the LPS Foundation comes in. We provide ‘extra’ funding to the school district – not to pay their bills or cover their already stretched budget – but to give them flexibility to zig and zag and adapt to the changing world. Our funding gives them resources and professional training needed to teach our kids and prepare them for whatever they choose to do in life.

Six years ago, the LPS Foundation was the first education foundation in the Denver Metro area to stand up for and support mental health and wellness issues in our schools. The funding we provide brings programs to our schools that simply wouldn’t be available without our extra financial support. Programs that center around resiliency, suicide prevention, anti-bullying, trusted adults, peer inclusion, self-advocacy, character building and so much more.

We can’t do it alone – we need your help! Please make an investment in our kids. They are the ones who will make our future strong and prosperous.

Here’s some information about us:

Littleton Public Schools Foundation (LPS Foundation) is the fundraising partner for Littleton Public Schools (LPS). Providing a quality education for every student is at the forefront of our purpose and we are committed to generating financial resources and building community partnerships that enhance student and staff success in all of our neighborhood schools.

The LPS Foundation has been in existence since 1991, is a registered standalone 501©3 organization, and is in sound financial condition with its sole purpose to raise funds in support of programs for all schools impacting all students within Littleton Public Schools. In the 27 years of our existence, we have provided over $6 million to LPS schools and have impacted close to 365,000 students.

Governed by our own Board of Directors, which is comprised of 22 members from the community, the LPS Foundation does not provide any programs or services, but rather provides funding for programs and or initiatives identified by the Superintendent and district leadership that are not paid for with tax dollars, are not included in the district’s already stretched budget, or covered by individual school’s Parent/Teacher Organizations.

In donating to the LPS Foundation as an educator, I actually see the benefits of our collective donations working within our school community!

- Mary Plath-Rice, Library Clerk, Arapahoe High School

I feel like this support saved my child’s life. I was so scared that something awful would happen…she was so depressed. We could not have gotten her to the therapist she needed without your financial support and guidance. Thank you.

- LPS parent of a sophomore student

The time is long past when people should be denying the prevalence of mental health struggles in our students, or stigmatizing those who need to seek help.

- LPS Board of Education member, Jim Stephens

In October of 2018, The Legacy Fund helped provide another event, A Community Conversation about Suicide: Prevention, Healing, Education, where several hundred parents and community members learned about youth suicide, mental health, and programs within LPS schools to address the issue.

In October of 2019, the Legacy Funds for Mental Health co-sponsored a remarkably creative and timely play called Ghosted. It was a professional stage play and conversation about the realities, relationships and resiliency of today's teens.
