Maura was traveling to Omaha, Nebraska
Location: Denver International Airport
Wow! What a crazy week it’s been at the CCB. I’ve been here for almost 2 months now, and I’ve never felt so excited about the road ahead. On Tuesday, I shopped for, prepared and served my dinner party. Here at the CCB, this is the first graduation requirement. It is designed to give the newer students a little more confidence in themselves and their abilities. I made shepherd’s pie and blondies with ice cream. I have to say, at the beginning of the cooking process, I didn’t think I could do it. I was out of the cocoa powder I needed, and was missing measuring spoons and several cups. Also, I was so terrified of the stove that I really thought this project was something I just couldn’t do. Luckily, I proved myself wrong, and the party was a big success, even though the food came 2 hours later than planned. Later in the week, I had a staffing, in which my progress was assessed. I can’t believe how far I’ve come! I started my program being shut up in my apartment and being unable to fathom cooking the amazing dishes others were creating, but then, I was suddenly traveling with friends to the movies and cooking a major meal for several other people. All in all, this has been such an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to see where the next few months take me. And now, a much needed trip home for labor day!
