Backstage Theatre

$403.29

We are in our 45th Season as a Community Theatre in Breckenridge, Colorado. We are a non-profit and while we produce live theatre performances for entertainment, we have a dedication year round to engage children in learning about theatre and the performing arts. Children who engage in the performing arts gain self-esteem, self-confidence, sense of self and the ability to speak in front of others. In today’s world of technology, live theatre remains the same; raw and creating emotion. Kids get a chance to express themselves and how they see the world.

The Backstage Theatre is committed to providing this opportunity to the youth in our community. Being able to express yourself is the foundation for a strong mental health. Please join us and support our Student Theatrical Enrichment Program.

Thank you!

  • Mission Statement:

Our mission is to enrich, educate and entertain Summit County residents, their children and visitors through opportunities to participate in and experience the joy of live theatre. Our passion is building community through the performing arts.

I am a single mom that has raised 3 daughters on my own since they were 5, 7, and 8.  My youngest two have greatly benefitted from the Step Program that started 5 years ago. Isabela had her first leading role as a 7th grader, and I have to tell you that it gave her so much confidence, encouragement and has helped her to succeed not only in the arts but also academically throughout the coming years of school. She starred as Gertrude in Suessical the Musical, and just recently played in Mary Poppins.  Every year she has participated in this tuition free program, she has grown and matured. Children today need as many opportunities as possible to improve their self-esteem and learn how to stand on their own throughout their young teenage life.  I am so grateful to have this program, and this past year from the overwhelming children’s interest with the production of Mary Poppins, Jr., the Backstage Theatre offered a double cast to accommodate everyone who wanted to participate and each cast performed two shows. My daughters Isabela and Sophie have benefited so much by this program.  Sophie is now a Sophomore in College and is continuing to pursue music for a career.  Isabela now a Junior at Summit High School wants to be able to continue with this program so she will get further education and performance opportunities. Participating in STEP has led her to want to continue in the theatre after she graduates in two years. Her passion and dream is to be on Broadway, and when she makes it, this program will be one of the major contributing factors for her great accomplishment. Given this chance to perform is so important to children’s continued growth. I can’t stress enough how beneficial this program is for all children’s well being, development, and confidence. It has benefited my family so much, and I would love it to continue for others to have the chance to perform and grow from it like my daughters did.

Sincerely,

Renee Imamua

  • Program Name:

    Student Theatrical Enrichment Program

  • Program Description:

Started in 2014, our Student Theatrical Enrichment Program (STEP) offers kids 18 & under the opportunity to perform in a high-quality musical in a large performance venue.

Participants receive instruction from theatre professionals in singing, acting, dancing and more as they prepare to mount a full-scale production in the beautiful Riverwalk Center. In 2018, almost 70 youth participated in the program, and attendance at the program's public performances exceeded 2,000.

So that cost is not a barrier for any children who are interested in participating, we offer this as a tuition-free program.

  • Beneficiaries:

Youth interested in learning about the theatre, through performing, stage management, set design, costume design and sound or light tech.

  • Budget:

    40000

  • Success Story:

This program has been so successful since it's inception that in 2019 we are adding a second program. STEP will perform the musical The Wizard of Oz in April 2019. In addition, in October/November 2019 STEP participants will have the opportunity to perform a dramatic play. This will be a completely new program for these students and give them instruction in another type of acting.
